How to arrive

Public transport:

If you are travelling by plane, the most convenient way of connecting between the Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam city center is by train.  Four direct trains per hour are offered, for details and timetable see:

http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/touristinformation/gettingaround/arrival-and-departure/arrival-by-plane

The nearest train station is Amsterdam Science Park, a 6-minute walk from CWI. The 2nd closest train station is Amstel Station. From there bus 40/240 goes to Science Park, but you can also take a taxi or rent a bicycle at the station.

Two direct trains per hour run between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Science Park.

To find your best connection, check the Dutch Rail (NS) train planner:

http://www.ns.nl/en/travellers/home

Tickets can be purchased at any ticket machine in the stations, more information and prices can be found at the Dutch Rail website.

Taxis:

Always an option, but relatively expensive. For details see:

http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/touristinformation/gettingaround/taxi

If you need a taxi from the CWI you can ask directly at the reception for a reservation. If reception is already closed call +31 20 690 58 58; the address is Science Park 123. Please, note that after 19:00 taxis cannot come to the entrance door so you will have to meet them outside the gates.

Cars:

Please be aware that parking space in Amsterdam is very scarce and hence very expensive. You can park your car on the Science Park area where CWI is located.

To enter the parking area by car, take a ticket from the machine at the gate. To leave collect an exit ticket from CWI reception.

Getting around:

Details about the metro, trams and busses, including the electronic ticket system ("OV-chip card") can be found at:

http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/touristinformation/gettingaround/publictransport

Visitors can use the disposable cards. Tickets for a single ride and 1-day (24 hour) passes can be purchased from the driver/conductor on trams and busses (cash only) and from vending machines in the metro stations.

Multi-day (up to 7-days/168 hours) passes can only be purchased from the vending machines or from the ticket office opposite of central station. For details see:
