Job Description

The Faculty of Engineering at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano is seeking candidates to fill a full-time tenured position at the Full or Associate Professor level in Computer Science (INFO-01/A). The successful candidates should have a strong research background, as the Faculty of Engineering puts a strong emphasis on foundational and applied research in Computer Science, on experience in the development of scalable systems, and on the co-operation with national and international research institutions and companies.

Candidates should also be committed to teaching excellence. They are expected to teach both introductory and advanced courses in Computer Science, and they will be involved in PhD student supervision—as each year the university funds several scholarships for the PhD program in Computer Science. Management skills and a strong record of project funding from companies and other public and private organizations are mandatory. The ideal candidate will be interested in collaborating with faculty members in the macro-area “Human-centered Intelligent Systems” (https://www.unibz.it/en/faculties/engineering/research/human-centered-intelligent-systems/).

Duties include at least 120 hours of teaching per year in Computer Science at the undergraduate, master or doctoral levels as well as student supervision.

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano has an attractive salary model and pay is commensurate with the scientific merits of the candidate. Re-location benefits, post-doc contracts, and start-up budget are also offered. Additionally, under certain conditions, it is possible to obtain a long-standing, substantial reduction in income tax in Italy for up to 13 years. Expected appointment date is March 2025.

Requirements

According to Italian legislation, only candidates already holding an equivalent academic position of Full or Associate Professor at their current foreign university (a university outside Italy) are eligible to take part in this application process of a “direct call from abroad”. Application that do not satisfy this requirement will not be short-listed.

Furthermore, the Selection Committee will consider applicants meeting the following conditions:

  1. Excellence in research at the international level, demonstrated by publications in leading international journals, including those with a high impact factor
  2. Evidence of high-quality teaching and mentoring
  3. Significant level of service to the university and the broader international scientific community
  4. Evidence of the ability to raise external funds for research
  5. Knowledge of German and English certified at competence level C1. If one of the two languages is the native language, it is not necessary to present the certificate for this language
