Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at Reykjavik University invites applications for full-time, permanent faculty positions at any rank, in particular in the fields of data science, software engineering, theoretical computer science, as well as visual computing, games, and interactive media.
We are looking for energetic, highly qualified academics with a proven international research record and excellent potential in their field of study. We seek candidates passionate about advancing science through innovative research and teaching, with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration across industry and academia, as well as real-world applications.
Apart from developing their research career, the successful applicant will play a full part in the teaching and administrative activities of the department and is expected to contribute to teaching existing courses, developing new courses and supervising students at both undergraduate and graduate level. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. Among other benefits, Reykjavik University offers a supportive environment and a reasonable teaching load. Research staff are offered the option to take research semesters (sabbaticals) after every three years of satisfactory teaching and research activity.
The positions are open until filled, with intended starting date in August 2025. Later starting dates can be negotiated. The deadline for applications is January 30, 2025. The review of the applications will begin in early January 2025 and will continue until the positions are filled.
Duties
- Develop and teach courses in the department of computer science
- Supervise undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students, as well as advise post-doctoral researchers.
- Establish and secure funding for national and international research projects.
- Conduct innovative research and publish in leading academic venues.
- Actively participate in departmental and university administrative and outreach activities.
- Build and manage collaborations with industry and academic partners.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Proven track record of quality, independent research in academia and/or technological development in industry.
- Experience in teaching, with preference given to candidates with course design and organization experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Department of Computer Science at Reykjavik University
The Department of Computer Science at Reykjavik University has about 780 full-time-equivalent students and 25 faculty members. It provides an excellent working environment that encourages and supports independence in academic endeavours, and in which a motivated academic can have impact at all levels.
The department offers undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering, as well as a combined undergraduate program in Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science. At the graduate level, the department offers a program in Computer Science with dedicated emphasis lines in Cybersecurity and Software Engineering, alongside programs in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Health.
