Michael E. Caspersen wins the 2022 ACM Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award
Congratulations to Michael E. Caspersen, IE’s former Board Member and co-chair of our permanent education research working group, for receiving the 2022 ACM Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award!
Michael is the second person from Europe to receive the Award since its establishment in 1989. The Award is presented annually to an outstanding educator who is:
- appointed to a recognized educational baccalaureate institution,
- recognized for advancing new teaching methodologies, or
- effecting new curriculum development or expansion in Computer Science and Engineering.
Previous Award recipients include international informatics educators from top universities such as Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
As Managing Director of It-vest − networking universities, Michael is also an Honorary Professor at our member institute: Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University. In addition, he serves as special advisor on digital education and skills to the Executive Vice President of the European Commission since April last year.
Michael was IE’s Board member between 2017 and 2022. With the support of his profound expertise and experience in informatics education, IE has established and advocated a number of education initiatives, including the founding of Informatics for All coalition, which he currently serves as the independent chair of the steering committee. Michael’s contribution to the IE community continues after he stepped down from his role at IE’s Board, as he remains the co-chair of our permanent education research working group. He also continues to represent IE in the steering committee for ITiCSE, the annual conference for innovation and technology in computer science education.
