Informatics Europe at womENcourage 2016
Informatics Europe President Lynda Hardman will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming womENcourage 2016 in Linz, Austria, September 12-13. Informatics Europe also sponsors the event.
In both her research role and her leadership of Informatics Europe, Lynda has been a steadfast advocate of increasing the representation of women in computing and informatics. In her keynote talk, “From Linked Data to Stories: Using explicit semantics to improve interactive information access”, Lynda will zoom in on her work in the area, as a role model for other women in the field.
As part of its sponsorship, Informatics Europe grants a number of scholarships for female students from Informatics Europe member institutes to attend the womENcourage conference. The purpose of these womENcourage scholarships is to encourage women in the field of computing to:
- Accelerate in their career through learning from others and asking for help when necessary;
- Converse with others on how best to manage their work life balance and
- Meet with their peers in order to build on their networks of expertise.
Informatics Europe's Women in Informatics Research and Education Working Group (WIRE) partners with ACM-W Europe to collaborate on projects related to women in computing. The ACM-W Europe womENcourage Celebration of Women in Computing is a scientific event, and also an event aimed at networking and exploring career opportunities for women in computer science and related disciplines. This conference brings together undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students, as well as researchers and professionals. The program includes technical presentations and also discussions related to career issues in academic and industrial research.
