Informatics Education in Europe: Institutions, Degrees, Students, Positions, Salaries - 2nd Edition

Informatics Europe is happy to announce the publication of the report "Informatics Education in Europe: Institutions, Degrees, Students, Positions, Salaries. Key Data 2008-2013".

This is the second edition of the report series "Informatics Education in Europe. Key Data", the first edition was published in 2013.

As in the first edition, the report, based on information from representative countries, presents a wealth of fundamental data, starting from a list of institutions awarding degrees in the field and continuing with student enrollments, degrees awarded, gender distribution, academic titles, as well as precise and much-needed data about academic salaries across European countries.

The second edition brings with it a number of improvements.  We have now included numerous graphics, making the salient trends more clear.  We have added a number of countries to those already covered, thanks to the active participation of new collaborators the report now covers Austria, Ireland and Turkey in addition to the original countries (Denmark, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and France for salaries). A very important change is the inclusion of data about University of Applied Sciences for countries where such institutions exist, distinct from traditional Universities. We have also a new section with detailed description of the systems of higher education in all the countries included in the study.

The production, expansion and improvement of this second edition is the result of encouragement and help from the community. We thank everyone who contributed to find and interpret data at national level allowing its inclusion in this report  and providing an opportunity to make the status of informatics education in their countries better known at European level.

We urge colleagues who have access to reliable data sources in their respective countries to contribute. Your country should not be left out of future editions of this report!

This initative provides the community with the precise and objective information that is indispensable for understanding the field and making informed, effective policy decisions.

The report can be downloaded here and is also available at the Reports page in our website.
