Dear Members,
Welcome to the March edition of Bulletin with updates of our activities with European Commission and more!
In this issue:
IE’s Support at the EC Expert Group on AI & Data in Education and Training
Informatics Europe is a member of the European Commission Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data in Education and Training. In February, Prof. Viola Schiaffonati from our member institute Politecnico di Milano, our representative at the Expert Group, initiated two online meetings with our IE working group to exchange and collect further feedbacks as a support to the Expert Group in setting guidelines and writing a report on AI and Data in Education and Training.
In October, IE conducted a questionnaire on AI and Data in Education and Training for the Expert Group. The questionnaire feedback, received from a total of 31 countries, were presented and discussed during the meetings, bringing about more interesting feedbacks which will be delivered to the Expert Group. The EU Commission also runs a survey to inform the development of the Ethical guidelines on AI and data usage in teaching and learning for educators. The survey is open for completion until 3 March here.
European-Funded Project Updates: Ethics4EU & EUGAIN
Following the transnational meeting in November last year, the IE task force supporting the Ethics4EU project held a new meeting with the creators of the educational bricks for the teaching of ethics in computer science in February. The input of our experts provides a valuable external perspective to the current fine-tuning of the educational bricks. From March 28th to April 1st a learning activity for professors interested in teaching Computer Science ethics will take place in Dublin; three members of IE’s task force plan to attend in representation of the IE community.
The third Management Committee (MC) of our COST Action “European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics (EUGAIN)” is scheduled on March 8. The Action achievements of our first-year activities as well as the plan for the coming 3 years will be reviewed. IE will be present as Grant Holder Manager and MC member. On the other hand, Prof. Maria Letizia Jaccheri, Chair of EUGAIN, is among five other COST Action researchers interviewed about their career experiences in honour of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11th. Read the interviews here.
