Questionnaire on Artificial Intelligence and Data in Education and Training
IE is part of the European Commission expert group on AI and data in education and training, which works on the development of ethical guidelines for this field. IE designated representative is Viola Schiaffonati, Associate Professor – Philosophy of Science and Technology at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano.
To enable Prof. Schiaffonatti bringing forwards not only her own experience, but also our view-points as IE community, we have invited IE members through email to complete a questionnaire on artificial intelligence and data in education and training. It aims at collecting our members’ opinion on the topic while assessing their interest in being further involved in this project, in particular, in joining the IE task force which shall provide input to Prof. Schiaffonatti throughout the duration of the expert group call.
We look forward to receiving your questionnaire answers on or before 10 Oct 2021.
Book Chapters in “Perspectives on Digital Humanism”
IE President Prof. Enrico Nardelli (Università di Roma “Tor Vergaa”) and IE Board Member Dr. Michael Caspersen (IT-vest) have both contributed a chapter respectively to the book “Perspectives on Digital Humanism”. The book is a collection of 46 articles from experts with different disciplinary and institutional backgrounds who provide their view on the interplay of human and machine. The book is now available online:
• The entire Perspectives on Digital Humanism book
• Chapter by Prof. Enrico Nardelli: “The Unbearable Disembodiedness of Cognitive Machines”
• Chapter by Dr. Michael Caspersen: “Informatics as a Fundamental Discipline in General Education – The Danish Perspecive”

Politecnico di Milano, Italy - Nicola Gatti appointed EurAI Fellow 2021
Prof. Nicola Gatti of Politecnico di Milano’s Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegne-ria has been appointed EurAI Fellow 2021.
The EurAI Fellows program was launched in 1999 to distinguish people who gave significant and lasting contributions to the field of artificial intelligence in Europe. The EurAI Fellows Program hon-ours only a small number of researchers, up to a maximum of 3% of the European researchers in artificial intelligence. It is commonly considered the most prestigious European lifetime achievement award for artificial intelligence.
The appointment is motivated by the candidate’s established scientific achievements, assessed on the basis of clear evidence of excellence, including participation in top international conferences and publications on the most prestigious scientific journals. It is the first time that an academic from Politecnico di Milano has been appointed EurAI Fellow.
