2021 Academic Leadership Development Course: Leading People in Academia
Again in 2021 Informatics Europe provides a unique development opportunity for new and emerging academic leaders in Informatics and Computing through the Online Academic Leadership Development Course: Leading People in Academia. We are glad to announce that the course is enjoying great demand, and we are looking forward to host the first virtual kick-off session on March 11. In six online workshops from March until May, Prof. Geraldine Fitzpatrick and Prof. Austen Rainer will lead the participants to develop leadership skills in the complex academic environment of Informatics.

COST Action EUGAIN - European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics 2nd Round of Meetings
 On February 16 and 17, the second round of meetings of the EUGAIN Cost Action took place. Five parallel Working Group (WG) meetings were held in the morning of February 16 and a Core Group (CG) meeting in the afternoon. Each Working Group, with between 10 and 20 members, created a plan on how to achieve its goals and contribute to the overall Action objectives, agreed upon internal communication tools, and defined subgroups to work on specific tasks. The CG, composed of all people with leading positions in the Action, met to share their plans and discuss and prepare for the presentations at the Management Committee (MC) meeting in the following day.
On Wednesday, during the second EUGAIN MC meeting, representatives from 36 (out of 37) countries actively participated in the discussions, decisions and planning for the Action. All CG leaders presented their work progress and future plans. MC Members were asked for input on important COST themes like how to encourage more participation from Early Career Investigators and members from Inclusiveness Target Countries, as well as how to include more male colleagues in the Action.
ECSS 2021 Main Theme confirmed: "Informatics for a Sustainable Future"
The new website for the ECSS 2021 is now online and the main theme "Informatics for a Sustainable Future" confirmed. Save the date for this year’s Summit, which will be held in Madrid from 25 to 27 October, 2021. Further details on the program and speakers will follow soon.

Université Sorbonne Paris Nord - The M&CS Graduate School
The M&CS Graduate School is an international, 5-year, high-level curriculum based in France. It is endorsed by the Galileo Doctoral School and three local masters: Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering and Innovation in Images and Networks. Three laboratories at Sorbonne Paris Nord University actively participate in this graduate school: LAGA – the laboratory of Mathematics, LIPN – the laboratory of Computer Science, and L2TI – the laboratory for Visual Information and Network Analysis and Processing. The interactions between Mathematics and Computer Science are highlighted in the graduate school to promote interdisciplinarity in teaching and research. 20 master fellowships and 1 PhD fellowship are available for September 2021. Applications are currently open until March 5, 2021.
Politecnico di Milano, Italy - NeurIPS - Best paper award
The Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics of the Politecnico di Milano won the best paper award at the 34th edition of NeurIPS (Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems) which is today the international conference of reference for machine learning and artificial intelligence. The last edition in attendance in the pre-COVID era, in 2019, had about 14,000 participants including academic researchers and personnel from the industrial world, and received the attention of major international media, including New York Times, Washington Post, Wired. In 2020, the articles sent by the entire international scientific community to NeurIPS were about 9500, of which about 1900 were chosen for publication.
Politecnico di Milano obtained 4 articles accepted at NeurIPS, proving to be one of the most vital Italian centres for research in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Among these, the article entitled "No-Regret Learning Dynamics for Extensive-Form Correlated Equilibrium" by Andrea Celli, Alberto Marchesi, Gabriele Farina, Nicola Gatti from the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics received the award as the best article. This work has provided a crucial contribution to solving sequential decision-making problems between rational agents, such as the distributed coordination of people to allow them to use shared resources in the most efficient way. In the last 20 years, no Italian university or research centre has won this award.
