EXCLUSIVE Member Spotlights at ECSS 2021 – hybrid event in Madrid

In less than two months, ECSS 2021 will take place in a hybrid format in Madrid from 25-27 October 2021. As an exclusive benefit, we are offering IE members the possibility to distribute materials about their activities free-of-charge to the ECSS participants at the venue. Additionally, the materials can be published on our ECSS website section Members Spotlight. An email with details of this benefit will be sent to our members soon. Last call for IE Online Academic Leadership Development Course – Cohort Autumn 2021

Due to high demand, last additional spots are added to our next Academic Leadership Development Course with extended registration deadline till 7 September 2021.

Made by computer scientists, made for computer scientists and made with computer scientists – our one of its kind course will be held every second Thursday until this December, with the orientation session on 16 September.

The course is a unique development opportunity for new and emerging academic leaders in informatics and computer science. During the course, you will have a facilitated learning experience to help you have a clearer sense of your own leadership identity and style, and acquire all necessary skills to become a better leader.

The course will be taught entirely online by Prof. Geraldine Fitzpatrick from Technical University of Vienna and Prof. Austen Rainer from Queen’s University Belfast - two senior informatics/computing academics with strong leadership backgrounds and experience.

Enrol now and embark on the journey to become an outstanding academic leader!

IE joins womENcourage 2021 celebrating bridges built across boundaries

IE is keen on supporting and facilitating gender-balanced environment in informatics. On 22-24 September, we will join forces with womENcourage 2021 to celebrate women in computing.

The three-day virtual conference is open to all genders and aims at connecting women from diverse technical disciplines and encouraging them to pursue education and profession in computing. As a bronze partner, IE will join the conference with a virtual booth. Our team will be available at our booth in the following time to answer any question you have about our EUGAIN project, IE membership and activities:

  • September 23 (Thu): 1400 – 1430, 1445 – 1545 (CEST)
  • September 24 (Fri): 1500 – 1600 (CEST)

Sep 22: debut of the new Informatics Europe webinar events

Our brand-new webinar events will debut on 22 September, 5pm (CET), with the webinar “Storing and Analyzing Viral Sequences through Data-driven Genomic Computing” by Prof. Stefano Ceri from Politecnico di Milano.

To foster knowledge exchange within the entire Informatics/Computer Science community, a 60-minute free webinar hosted by distinguished scholars and researchers will be held each month. The webinars are open to all and include live Q&A sessions.

In addition to the above monthly webinar series, a free interactive webinar will be organized for doctoral students in informatics on 8 October, 12-2pm (CET). Co-led by our Academic Leadership Development course facilitators Prof. Geraldine Fitzpatrick and Prof. Austen Rainer, participants can support each other with discussions on how to take the lead on championing and addressing issues in informatics research and education regarding the European PhD community. Ethics4EU - Save the date! On September 22nd afternoon, the Ethics4EU Project will organize a workshop on Teaching Ethics to Computer Science and Engineering Students - Past Experiences and Future Outlook. The event, organized by Chalmers University of Technology, will include contributions from experts in teaching Digital Ethics to Computer Science and Engineering students and a workshop to share experiences and ideas for the future. Participants will be given access to newly designed resources to facilitate them in teaching ethics in their CS and engineering modules.
