Prof. Viola Schiaffonati joins the EC Expert Group on AI and Data in Education and Training, in representation of IE

Prof. Viola Schiaffonati of Politecnico di Milano’s Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria joined the European Commission Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data in Education and Training as a representative of Informatics Europe.

The group has started working on Thursday, 8 July 2021 and its primary task is to assist the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sports and Culture with the preparation of practical guidelines for educators with concrete practices on the ethical implications of AI and data use in education and training. Members of the group support cooperation and the exchange of information, expertise and best practices between the Commission and relevant stakeholders. The group also helps to raise awareness within the education and training sectors about the opportunities and risks of the use of AI and data.

IE Online Academic Leadership Development Course:
Autumn 2021 Edition

The Informatics Europe Online Academic Leadership Development Course will be held again in Autumn 2021. Take advantage of this unique development opportunity for new and emerging academic leaders in Informatics and Computing!

This course is particularly appropriate for early or middle career academics. Via seven 2-hour online workshop sessions (every second Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00 CEST/CET), complemented by an introductory session and in-between preparation work (own time engaging with video/audio content, worksheets and readings) and peer support sessions, you will have a facilitated learning experience to help you situate your leadership, lead yourself and others, and further your own development.

This will be an exclusive, highly interactive, practical, experiential course by computer scientists for computer scientists. Places are limited, so register early!

Change of Office Staff

We are delighted to welcome Kit Wan Chui to our Informatics Europe team! Working part-time, Kit Wan is replacing Franziska Hauffe as the new Communication and Administration Specialist from July.

Originally from Hong Kong, Kit Wan has a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Language Technology and a Master’s degree in Health Sciences. With solid experience in communications and administration, she has worked as Program Coordinator and Executive Officer for different universities and non-profit organisations in Hong Kong, US and Switzerland. Currently learning German, she speaks fluent English and Chinese.

Politecnico di Milano, Italy - ICT4DEV: the project for the development of ICT in Mozambique funded by AICS has kicked off

ICT4DEV, a Politecnico di Milano’s project coordinated by Prof. Luciano Baresi (Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria) and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), kicked off on 1 June 2021. ICT4DEV addresses some of the issues related to the development of ICT in Mozambique, responding to training and skill-building needs in a rapidly evolving sector and supporting the development of ICT applications in the sectors with the greatest impact on the social and economic development of the country. Sustainable development will be pursued through the training of ICT specialists and support for the creation of a cultural environment that enhances the use of ICT.
