Informatics Europe’s Bulletin  May 2016

Dear member representative,

We are happy to send you the latest Informatics Europe bulletin, our bi-monthly newsletter for members.

In this issue:

Check out our New Website!

Yes, indeed, your Member Bulletin looks different and so does our website. We are excited to announce the launch of the new www.informatics-europe.org. The site has a fresh new look matching our visual identity, is now also mobile-responsive and has a new navigation and content structure to give you quick access to topics of interest.

The new site was designed with our users`needs in mind. The improvements respond to user feedback collected through a qualitative survey with member and non-members.  This information was then also coupled with Google Analytics data.

Among the website’s improvements are:

  • the Informatics Europe `brand slider` on the homepage
  • the new top navigation with separate menu items for publications, working groups and awards
  • the ECSS as a microsite in its own right, linked to the IE website
  • latest job postings now visible and accessible from the homepage
  • visibility for our members with logos displayed on our homepage
  • more visual news, readily accessed from the homepage and second-level pages
There are also ways for you to contribute and gain visibility:

Do have a look and play around. We hope you enjoy the new site, and welcome any feedback or suggestions for further improvements!

ECSS 2016: Informatics Driving the Digital World

The ECSS 2016 Program Chairs Gregor Engels, University of Paderborn, and Informatics Europe, and László Monostori, MTA SZTAKI, Hungarian Academy of Sciences and ERCIM, are steaming ahead with the planning of this year`s Summit in Budapest, 24-26 October 2016, hosted by the Faculty of Informatics of the Eötvös Loránd University. The popular pre-Summit Workshop for Deans, Department Chairs and Research Directors will take place on 24 October, chaired by Mehdi Jazayeri, University of Lugano.

What`s new:
  • Prestigious speakers and thought leaders are confirmed to speak on the central theme `Informatics Driving the Digital World`.
  • The call for participation is out. Please forward broadly to your network.
  • ECSS now has a website of its own: please bookmark the site and visit regularly for updates.

Cooperation with ERCIM

Our President, Lynda Hardman, attended a number of the ERCIM spring meetings, May 25-26, 2016, in Creta to discuss possible areas for collaboration and co-ordination of activities between Informatics Europe and ERCIM.

The first concrete proposal is to present joint awards as of 2017.  A task force will now work on a proposal for having the Informatics Europe Minerva Informatics Equality and Best Practices in Education Awards and the ERCIM Cor Baayen Award as joint initiatives of both organisations. As a start, a joint Award Ceremony will be held this year at the ECSS to announce the 2016 winners of the three awards.

ERCIM is also collocating its annual fall meetings with the ECSS 2016 in Budapest to allow for joint ERCIM/Informatics Europe Board meetings and strengthen the discussions on further cooperation.
